Response to Jenny's comment on the Golden Rule Facebook page since commenting was shut off after her response. You can see my initial review there. I would typically not do this, but when being called a liar as I was on there I feel as I need to explain further. I tried e-mailing them after her response, but I never heard anything back......It was a $5 charge on each policy twice a year ($20/year) NOT monthly, OR I was told it would be $2 on each policy if it was automatic withdrawal($8/year). ALL I wanted was to change my homeowner's policy to annual and pay my auto for 6 months (with the $5 charge this time) and then in 6 months change (or "rewrite" is what I was told) my auto policy to annual so that I could pay annually at that time and there be no additional charges. When I inquired about that, I was most certainly told "it would be an awful lot of trouble for us here in the office" (referring to rewriting the policy to annual, NOT the installment charge) whether they use that "verbiage" or not, that is what I was told. I was not rude until I was being treated as if I were ridiculous for not wanting to pay $20 extra per year and knew there had to be a way around it and even after that I was firm, not rude. As far as the automatic withdrawal, I was wanting to verify when it would come out as I have had a negative experience once with automatic withdrawal elsewhere before. I was simply wanting to be sure it would not come out prior to the date it was due. I did not "demand" anything. I reiterated AT LEAST four times that I understood it was NOT their fault that the charges were there as they did not work for the insurance company, I had I just assumed I would get some help figuring out what I could do to avoid $20 extra a year. For some, $20 a year is a lot when you're pinching pennies and your insurance has already gone up $100 (which we budgeted for). As I said I switched insurance associates and have the exact same policies with the same insurance company, was able to pay my homeowners premium at the same price for a year WITHOUT any fee, paid my auto for 6 months (with the fee) and it will be rewritten in 6 months to pay it annually (all as I had asked if Golden Rule could do) so in 6 months I will no longer be paying the fee as I will be paying both of my policies annually. Also, my new insurance agency signed us up with a program through the insurance company to where we will save 5% and up to 40% after finishing it, something Golden Rule NEVER offered as an option to me so they were not getting me the best price, anyway. I have no problem giving praise where praise is do, as I said in my review on their Facebook page Bailey was very nice and helpful. I was simply calling after I had received her e-mail to discuss things I was unclear about in the e-mail and see about having it switched as I have stated above and as was done for me at my new agency. I would not have been happy (but would have lived with) with $1 charge (that is not what I was "splitting hairs" over, in fact the words "one dollar" was not even in the conversation), but $8/year versus $20/year (which is what I was being charged) is quite a difference (if you follow Dave Ramsey's plan, as we have) and I do not believe unreasonable to question and look into options to minimize that. Also, I did not hang up on them. I said I was going to look into something local even if it did end up costing me more (which it didn't :)) and I told them thank you and have a good day.....then hung up. I am being called a liar, and a liar is something I cannot stand and is most certainly not what I am. If it was Jenny I spoke to, she is poorly describing the situation and if it was not her she was poorly informed. I am sorry I did not get the name of who I spoke to. I was treated not as a customer, but as a nuisance for asking questions and trying to figure out my best option....which is something, I believe, we are all entitled to when we are paying money for a service.
